The Flora and Fauna of Our Yard
I'm generally interested in birds, plants, lizards, bugs, and other critters - but I'm especially interested in the ones that show up in our own yard. So here is an informal collection of specimens (none were harmed - well, except for the gophers), divided up into some broad categories. For now, a few interesting bits: Hornworm (Sphinx Moth Caterpiller) - really cool and colorful. A Sphinx Moth, with really close close-ups. Western Bluebirds bringing bugs to their babies in the nest. An assortment of wildflowers in our yard. A pretty moth on a Geranium (Pelargonium) leaf. Black Nightshade - leaves. flowers, berries. Black Widow Spider (warning, icky!)
Landscape Plants Things we've intentionally planted (or that were planted before we arrived). Wildlife Here's a Phoebe (a kind of flycatcher), with a bug for its babies in the barn. Native & Volunteer Plants Things planted by birds, the wind, etc. What the heck, even weeds are green, right? Bugs Here's a longhorned boring beetle of some sort, next to a dime. |
