< Return to Natural History of Our Yard Page Western Bluebird (Sialia mexicana) These birds took up residence in a nest box I'd put in our pecan tree. Of course the cats discovered them, so I installed a Cat Guard, made of empty corn oil jugs. The photos were taken in early May 2004. Some are in sequences of 3-4 photos. The birds would show up with a bug, land far off to watch the nest, then work their way closer when they saw it was safe.
