Good Causes
If you have too much money or free time, there's plenty of good work to be done out there. Here are a few groups that I find particularly worthwhile. Each will open in a new window, so you don't lose your place here:
Backcountry Horsemen of California, Caballeros del Sol unit
Educational clinics, volunteer trail construction and maintenance, and working for continued equestrian access public lands. If you are a horseperson, jump in and help. If you own a business that benefits from horsepeople (tack, feed, fencing, trailers, trucks, construction, grading...), you should be helping to promote and preserve equestrian activities. When there is no place left to ride, who will buy your products? Just like the off-road folks, if we want to stay "in business", we have to work for it.
Boys & Girls Club of East County
These are the nice folks who took us in during the Cedar fire (see our fire story). They let us keep our critters, plus two others we had rescued, in a fence play area. We gave them a little Thank You plaque, but I still owe them a big favor. Aside from helping us, which is what brought them to our attention, they do great work for kids in our area. Send them money.
Hystersisters.com
HysterSisters - The kindest place on the Internet. If you might have a hysterectomy in your future, or know someone who may, you will find a wealth of good information and support there.
If you are able, donate money. They do good work on a shoestring.
