Considerate Lighting & Dark Skies

Thank you to Michael Eskin for the photo of the moon.

Well-designed, subtle, shielded outdoor lighting is effective and attractive.

Glaring, bright lights make your property look cheap and trashy, like a bad used car lot.

Unshielded lighting makes it hard for your neighbors to see outdoors. It's rude.

No matter what the marketing geniuses put on the boxes at the home store, nobody wants to look at their neighbor's glaring "decorative" lights. Not pretty.

Bad "security" lights - like those cheap, obnoxious mercury vapor lights over garages - just blind you and provide shadows where prowlers can hide.

Exposed bulbs (like in carriage lights) near the road can blind drivers and pedestrians.

If you do not appreciate starlit / moonlit nights, please stay in the city.
